Book Cheap Flights with Regional Express REX
After the collapse of Ansett Australia, several businessmen (mostly former employees of Ansett) saw an opportunity in continuing the regional side of the business operations of the airline. These businessmen purchased Hazelton and Kendell, two profitable airlines before and after they became part of Ansett, and launched the combined companies into Regional Express. Regional Express is now more popularly known as Rex. The move proved to be a sound business decision because separately, Kendell and Hazelton were profitable and together the two companies presented valuable economies of scale brought about by streamlining the flight and engineering operations of the two companies. Kendell and Hazelton flew similar types of aircrafts which made streamlining business operations viable.
Regional Express is owned by a consortium of Singaporean and Australian investors. The consortium is known as the Australiawide Airlines Consortium. It was established in 2002. Rex started operations in August of 2002 and flies scheduled regional trips servicing the South Eastern States. It is based in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales Australia and is now the biggest private regional airline in the country. Its entire fleet consists of SAAB 340 turbo pop aircrafts which can carry 34 to 36 passengers. The SAAB 340 is a Swedish built aircraft.
In 2005, Regional Express announced its plans to purchase Pel-Air. The same year, it also purchased Airlink, another regional airline. Just recently, Pel-Air became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rex.
